Sunday, January 20th at St. Nicholas of Tolentine, community voters packed inside on a chilly day to learn more about their candidates for the election on Tuesday, February 5th.  Invitees included Jim Capparelli (D), Jerry Bennett (D), Mark Pera (D), Dan Lipinski (D), Michael Hawkins (R) and Art Jones (R). The agreed two-hour forum offered community leaders the opportunity to identify how issues affect them personally and allowed each candidate equal time for a response.  Key issues included immigration policy, housing, health care, civil liberties, education, and safety.

The Resurrection Project believes that community residents must receive fair and non-partisan access to information that affects their families.  Events such as this candidate forum provide a positive opportunity for that.  We remind everyone to ask the questions that help build healthy communities and become civically involved: register to vote, VOTE on February 5th, become a U.S. citizen, or volunteer!
