Free Workshops for Homebuyers and Homeowners

Communities without the right homeownership education fall prey to predatory lenders, home repair scams, and high foreclosure rates - robbing neighborhoods of wealth and investment.  Educated communities, on the other hand, attract reputable financial institutions and consumer services, allowing community wealth to be preserved and families' assets to grow. TRP conducts a variety of workshops in order to provide this education, which includes:

  • ABC's of Homeownership - The core of TRP's homeownership and financial literacy curriculum, this workshop should be your first step in the homebuying process.  Before going to a bank, broker, or real estate agent, it is important to be armed with as much information as possible.  This 6 hour workshop covers the entire homebuying process and is designed especially for families who want to buy a home for the first time.  It addresses everything from understanding the pros and cons of homeownership, to finding the right loan, to the closing process.  You will learn from one of TRP's homeownership experts, as well experts from the field:  including lenders, real estate agents, and home inspectors.  Make this workshop your first step!
  • Banking with Confidence - Learn how the banking system works and what is needed to open a savings and checking account.
  • Budget, Debt Management and Credit - Understand the importance of using a monthly budget and effectively managing debt and credit.
  • Home Maintenance - Learn how to maintain your home in good working order and how to finance home repairs.
  • Foreclosure Prevention - In these workshops, our financial counselors explain the process of foreclosure and the range of options facing you, the ins and outs of speaking with your lending institution, and how to protect yourself from foreclosure rescue scams.

You will also learn how to take advantage of the HUD-approved one-on-one counseling services that TRP offers.
