Music and Celebration at the 5th Annual Tardes en el Zócalo!

On Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, the plaza on Paulina between 18th Street and 18th Place was alive with the color and music of TRP's 5th Annual Tardes en el Zócalo cultural celebration.

Although Chicago was hit by massive rain and thunderstorms the week before, and the threat of another massive storm forced a cancellation of Friday night's festivities, the skies opened up and the sun shone down on the Zócalo for the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday, children painted masks, made maracas, and whacked at pinatas while the rest of the family enjoyed Mexican treats from local restaurants and a whole day singing, dancing, and music-playing from area musicians and performers, while Sunday evening brought Friday's cancelled movie:

a performance of Pedro Infante's "Escuela de Vagabundos".

Hundreds of friends and neighbors passed through the Zócalo to enjoy a beautiful summer weekend celebrating the flavor and vibrancy of Mexico's art, music, song, and dance.

Many thanks to our sponsors and to our incredible performers, including the groups Fandanguero, Mexican Dance Ensemble, Tarima son, Nahui Ollin, and our Saturday headliners, Sones de Mexico.

Are you already starting to think about next year?

Good!

So are we.  (Watch the video below for highlights of folks dancing along to Fandanguero).

Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed a great weekend on the Zócalo!
