Local Schoolchildren & Community Celebrate 2008 Dia de los Muertos
While a little early this year for the official Dia de los Muertos ("Day of the Dead"), observed annually in the
Mexican culture on Nov 2nd, or All Souls Day, Pilsen students were still able to celebrate with their classmates and community members on Oct 30th. A procession with art work down 18th Street, led by St. Procopius 4th graders, ended again in the Zocalo plaza at 18th and Paulina, where volunteer parents waited to set up the altar to honor the dead. The students then performed dances and readings in a morning of remembering their ancestors. Click here for all photos from the day.
